XVII Peru International: William Cabrera clinch beats Ruben Castellanos in qualifying round battle
William Cabrera, an upcoming shuttler from Dominican Republic, delivered an inspiring performance in the Men’s Singles qualifying round when he defeated Guatemala’s Ruben Castellanos at the XVII Peru International 2012 on Wednesday, April 11, in Peru.
Cabrera, who was the fourth seed in Men’s Singles draw in qualifying round, showed his hunger for victory when he played to his maximum potential and overpowered his talented opponent Castellanos in a thrilling fight.
The fourth seeded Cabrera employed all of his skills in the court and emerged as the winner of the match in hard-fought three games.
On the other hand, Castellanos also played positive badminton and took the first set with a huge margin. However, he lost his control in the game and eventually lost the following both games to his higher ranked challenger.
Cabrera played quivering badminton in the opening points of first set as he committed many unforced errors and remained behind his lower ranked rival on the score board.
In the meanwhile, Castellanos remained focused in the game and he did not let his higher ranked opponent to take control of rallies at any stage. He was leading the game with a superb margin until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Cabrera tried to break the rhythm of Castellanos but failed to live up to expectations and lost the set with a huge margin of 14-21.
In the second game, Cabrera changed his strategy and managed to play dominating game while remaining quicker in all corners of the court. He took a comfortable lead in the opening half of second set.
After the break, Cabrera did not let his rival to get back into the game as he played with precision and won the set with a striking margin of 21-13.
In the deciding set, Cabrera continued his roller-coaster performance without giving even a slight margin to his lower ranked challenger to get control of rallies. Until the break, he established an impressive lead in the game.
After the break, Cabrera did not make any mistake in the game and took the final set with an impressive score of 21-14.
Cabrera won this thrilling three-set contest with a 14-21, 21-13 and 21-14 score on the board.
