XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012: Alex Cheng ousts James Ho in Boy’s Singles U17 quarter-final
Alex Cheng, a talented player from USA, delivered a spectacular performance in Boy’s Singles U17 quarter-final when he defeated his local rival James Ho at the XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012 on Friday, July 27, in Canada.
The un-seeded Alex, who has been showing his tremendous skills throughout the tournament, continued putting up staggering show in quarter-final battle and ousted his Canadian opponent in a well-fought battle.
The USA shuttler had to produce top quality performance on court and he managed to overpower his opponent in three games of 46 minutes by a decent margin on score board.
On the other hand, James failed to respond well to his home fans as he tried his best to stop the advancement of his rival but failed to prove his worth and lost the match in rubber sets with a respectable margin.
In the opening set, Alex found a perfect start as he did not face any trouble from his local challenger and set up a wonderful lead of 11-5 until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, James also became aggressive and showed his brilliance by playing attacking badminton. He was quite focused on court and remained successful in ending up the lead of his opponent by reaching at 20-20.
Both shuttlers continued their impressive performance at this stage and reached at 24-24 when Alex played dominating badminton and took the game with a dramatic 26-24 score on the board.
However, it was a completely different situation in the following set when James proved his worth on court by playing aggressive and dominating badminton and took a superb lead of 11-6 until the break.
After the interval, Alex played with precision but failed to disturb the momentum of his opponent and eventually dropped the game with a huge margin of 13-21.
In the deciding set, James remained dominant in opening half and he managed to take a comfortable lead of 11-6 until the break.
After the interval, Alex changed his tactics and managed to draw near on score board by reaching at 13-14.
At this stage, Alex gave a shocking treatment to James by grabbing eight consecutive points and won the game with a 21-14 score on the board.
Alex overpowered James in a thrilling fashion by ending up the rubber-set contest with an interesting margin of 26-24, 13-21 and 21-14.
