XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event: Iris Wang thumps Adrianna Holcek to ensure crown for USA
The young but talented female shuttler Iris Wang played a vital role and led her country to the podium by beating Adrianna Holcek in final round of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event on July 24, 2012.
This encounter, which was the Women’s Singles tie of title match between USA and Canada,was resolved in just 26 minutes with decisive figures of 21-8 and 21-11.
The local player disappointed her supporters by putting a below par performance at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada.
Meanwhile, Iris Wang proved her mettle by registering a straight-set win in a commendable style.
The 18-year-old shuttler played with great maturity and did not show any sign of confusion throughout this crucial tussle.
She made her intentions clear straight away in the beginning of first set as she enthralled her rival with a huge difference of 13 points in final result.
In first half, she employed unbeatable strategy and kept the opposing shuttler grounded all the way to mid-game break.
The US campaigner dominated in five uninterrupted rallies and established an unassailable lead with 6-1 total.
She capitalised this early advantage and added three points to pile up a mountainous figure of 9-3 which ultimately helped her to reach at commanding position of 11-4 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, Iris Wang injected more intensity in her attack and strengthened her grip with 15-5.
She bagged six out of ending nine points and finished first set with an overwhelming score of 21-8.
The Canadian female shuttler could not come out of this deficit and faced a woeful defeat also in the second set of match.
Though, Adrianna Holcek showed decent fighting skills in this crucial segment but it was not enough to avoid a straight-set defeat.
She matched her competitor’s skills until 6-6 but then couple of fatal mistakes triggered the collapse.
Iris Wang did not miss this opportunity and left her far behind with four back-to-back points. She managed to put a convincing margin of 11-7 before half time.
The US shuttler did not show any mercy in later part of the game and raised hands as Champion with final margin of 21-11.
