XXVI Spanish Open: Anders Skaarup Rasmussen-Lena Grebak secure Mixed Doubles title – Badminton news
Denmark’s upcoming players, Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Lena Grebak, made their presence strongly felt as they wrapped up Mixed Doubles title at XXVI Spanish Open 2013, which ended in Madrid, on Sunday, May 26.
In the final battle, Anders and Lena put up staggering show of attacking badminton and outplayed Poland’s Wojciech Szkudlarczyk and Agnieszka Wojtkowska without facing any considerable problem.
The lofty Anders and Lena, who were the fourth seeds in Mixed Doubles main draw of the tournament, played with great speed and precision and easily registered a straight-set victory over their Polish rivals with a convincing score of 21-14 and 21-18.
Meanwhile, the un-seeded Wojciech and Agnieszka could not put up strong show at any stage. They showed a few glimpses of their brilliance but failed to snatch any set from their Danish rivals and went down in just 35 minutes.
Anders and Lena showed a wonderful aggression on court from the starting points of first game by building a huge pressure on his challenger.
Danish duo proved that they are at the best of their form. They did not show any sign of pressure and remained on driving seat.
Until the end of starting half, the in-form Anders and Lena continued playing positively and managed to set up a comfortable lead.
After the one-minute break, Anders and Lena were focused on court and they did not let their Polish rivals to narrow the gap on the board.
Anders and Lena did not play risky strokes as they were in complete command. They dictated the pace of rallies and bagged the opening set with a superb margin of 21-14.
In the following set, the un-seeded Polish players also played competitive badminton and they matched the pace of rallies at the opening stage.
Both sides were neck to neck until the end of first half. No one could manage a comfortable lead in the first part this time.
However, the confident Anders and Lena employed their impressive skills on court in the ending points of second game and they managed to win the set with a close margin of 21-18.
