The midfield maestro has asserted that his national side have replied to the criticism they received by winning the final of the European Championship.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xabi-Alonso-c37045 is aware of the negative remarks the Spanish national side received during the Euro, and has stated that La Roja’s victory in the final downplays all the denigration that they were treated to.
La Furia Roja successfully defended their European title after they humbled http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 to a defeat in the final of the Euro 2012.
The match that took place at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev saw the Reds thrash the Azzurri with a final score of 4-0.
The showdown of the prestigious tournament was more like an all-Spanish affair, as the Blues were unable to find the back of the net throughout the game.
Prior to the final, the Spaniards were brought under some criticism for their overly defensive tactics.
The Spanish head coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 del Bosque, decided to use the ‘false nine’ tactics during this year’s European Championship campaign. The striker-less formation saw Cesc Fabregas play upfront and carry-out the duties of a forward.
Furthermore, La Roja played with their ‘tiki taka’ style of play, which is basically used to frustrate opponents and dominate possession.
Although they were tipped as heavy favourites in the coveted competition, their style of play caused the World champions to play boring football.
However, the Spanish were actually able to win the tournament in the end. Even though they played with their ‘false nine’ tactics once again, the defending European champions were able to demolish Italy in the final.
While talking to reporters, Xabi Alonso quoted:
"We heard the criticism and we saw what was written. That happens. Now they will have a different opinion. We don't feel we have an obligation to keep winning trophies. But we also knew what was expected of us. Maybe four years ago we enjoyed it more because
it was the first time.”
Having won two consecutive Euros and a World Cup, Spain will hope to build on the success that they have achieved.
