Former Liverpool midfielder, Xabi Alonso, has revealed that Rafa Benitez did not want him at Anfield which was the reason he left the club for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid in the summer of 2009. He insisted that the manager had plans to buy new players from the funds received
by selling him, which made him feel unwanted at the club.

The Spaniard’s move angered a lot of fans as the club had a fantastic season, where they had finished second in English Premier League. But the move was expected as Benitez
had already tried to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 as a replacement for Alonso at the start of the term, denting the player-manager relationship.
The midfielder stated that Rafa had already told him at the start of the season that he was not needed and that he wants to sign other players as replacement. He added that this conversation had disappointed him and that is when he made his mind to leave
the club.
“At the end of that season, speaking to Rafa, he told me the situation and that he wanted to sign other players and I could be one of the replacements. If an offer would have come, probably I would have been sold. That's when I told myself that the situation
had changed - from being a very important player to being one of those who can be sold to get funds to sign other players,” he was quoted in an interview.
The 2005 UEFA Champions League winner admitted that the triumph in Istanbul is still his best memory in football to date and the supporters also remember it.
“It is a final in the memory of all football supporters. They have it in their mind, it was the greatest comeback ever, so wherever I go they have that memory,” the former Real Sociedad player concluded.
Xabi Alonso has become an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s side and has appeared 52 times for Los Blancos this season, scoring one goal.
