I have a pretty specific question about the prescription drug xanax. My younger sister went to a rapid detox and rehab for abusing it and she was sober for about 8 days and left the rehab due to our insurance not covering it any longer. She used xanax again for ONE week straight after getting out and it has been 24 hours since she has had any and she is not getting anymore at all. My question is.. is she in any danger of withdrawal side effects? I remember when she was heavily using them they told her she could die if she stopped cold turkey, but this time she hasn't been using them heavily, just one or two a day for a week. I wanted to know if she is at any risk of having any problems or complications with withdrawal, or is it okay because it was a small amount for only one week? I really need to know this as soon as possible. I am watching her closely to make sure she doesn't get anymore, but is she okay for now? PLEASE I'm so worried.

  1. Benzo withdrawl is considered the worst of the worst when relating to pills. She very well may experiance withrawl and there isnt mutch anyone can do for her except watch her go through it. Oxycontin is actually easier to come off of seen as how they can treat you with methadone or other medications. Bezos however have nothing except will power wich is unfortionatly not reality with an addict. These can cause death but if she has already completed a detox once chances are she is still dealing with the mental addiction side of it. It is imparative that she goes to meetings. Take her to AA or NA. AA is very helpfull because they are addicts themselfs. Many people who are dependant on drugs now go to AA because of the help they get. If she was in detox she should have a list of places where she can get a sponser. If she starts to have convultions or appears to turn blue etc, call 911 and get her to a hospital otherwise she will exhibit the usual sweats, itching, thrashing and agoney of mental thoughts that can cause her to think she is going insane. I'll keep her in my prayers and by all means, do not allow her to feed it or talk you into getting her any more. IF her doctor pescribed her any clonopin, volume, zanax ect. it would be wise to issue them to her instead of letting her take them on her own. I went through detoxing myself off of oxycontin because I started to end up with missing doses toward the end of the month without even knowing it. I was on 140mgs a day and right befor I stopped I seen that some days I would take up to 400mgs. It sucked and I thought I was going to die but it beats being at a methadone clinic everyday or spending $$$ on a drug that will sooner or later kill you. Good luck
