Was prescribed Xanax, it says not to take it with grapefruit juice. I heard something about orange juice too. I love orange juice and drink it almost every day, are there any dangers to taking the Xanax with the orange juice?

  1. orange juice is OK

  2. There is an enzyme in grapefruit that causes a few rx meds to become less effective.  OJ does not contain that same enzyme.  Drink up!

  3. No, the problem is specific to grapefruits, and grapefruit juice. There are chemicals in grapefruits that affect the digestion and absorption of some medications. Taken in combination these can lead to dangerously high levels of the medication in your system. Oranges and orange juice are fine, but avoid tangelos and Seville oranges.

P.S. Exercise, massage and meditation are great non pharmacological ways to treat anxiety. Good luck.

  4. Citrus is citrus! Go for it.
