Xavi Says Fabregas Deal is Inevitable
Barcelona midfield player, Xavi, says a deal for Arsenal player, Cesc Fabregas, is an inevitable move.
Fabregas has been widely tipped as the replacement for Xavi in the Barcelona team as the midfielder is not getting any younger. He says that a deal will be done in the near future and that Arsenal are only delaying something, which everyone knows will happen.
Arsenal have already rejected one big bid from Barcelona for the player and Arsene Wenger has already said that he will not sell the player because of his value and worth to the North London club.
Fabregas and Xavi have a very good relationship and it's important to look at the sort of pressure that these comments are going to put on both parties. It's also important to look at similar examples of the past, which would suggest that there is some truth in what Xavi is saying.
Pressure
It is not going to do Arsenal any good if they are holding on to a player that has one eye on another club. Fabregas may not want to admit it but he has already got good friends at Barcelona and it is the club where he started his career.
Fans and Arsenal members will be worried and a bit annoyed by Xavi's comments. However, they will realise that he is a very high profile player of the Spanish club and would not come out with such comments if they were going to get him in a lot of trouble.
Xavi said: "We know where Cesc wants to be this coming season, but perhaps there is not enough time for Barcelona and Arsenal to agree a deal. Arsenal need to understand they are only delaying the inevitable. If we don't manage to get his signature this season then Arsenal only really have him on loan for a year - because there is nothing they can do to stop him joining next summer."
Examples
The best example of a similar sort of incident also happened between a Spanish and an English club. Real Madrid wanted to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, the player said he was interested and the move was put off for a year. The deal happened the next summer and Ronaldo joined Madrid for a world record sum of money.
There is often a great deal of talk about loyalty and contracts in football but they do not seem to make an enormous amount of difference when two parties agree they have common interests. Rio Ferdinand said he would never join Manchester United and he did, Wayne Rooney said he would never leave Everton but he did.
There is a clear interest on the part of Barcelona and a clear interest on the part of Fabregas so the move is going to happen eventually. Xavi added: "I haven't given up on him joining us this season but, if he doesn't, it won't be more than a year before he is back home."
Advice
Sit tight and wait to see what happens during the rest of the pre-season program. If Fabregas is still at Arsenal for another season then he will make them a much stronger proposition to back.
It could well be his last season at the North London club and because of this he may well want to go out in some style. This means he could well score more goals than ever before. Don't be afraid to back him to score in any game, regardless of who he is playing for because he has that ability to turn a game in a second.
