Barcelona’s star players, Xavi Hernandez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296, have taken out time to express their dissatisfaction on the quality of refereeing in La Liga.
The pair openly spoke against the style adopted by several referees in matches that take place in the Spanish Primera.
The duo appeared very frustrated at their team’s 0-0 draw against a struggling Villarreal and blamed the match officials for being unfair on the Spanish Champions during the proceedings of the match.
Messi and Xavi spoke of the current season’s campaign in particular, stating that this year things have gotten from bad to worse for the Catalans in terms of refereeing.
Pep Guardiola’s men visited El Madrigal to play their La Liga fixture against Villarreal, on Saturday. To their disappointment, La Blaugrana were held to a stalemate by a very hard-working Villarreal. The heavily contested fixture ended in a 0-0 draw
with each team coming away with one point apiece.
Barcelona dropped two points in the game, which may prove to be very crucial as the season progresses.
To add to their contention, Real Madrid secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over their weekend opponents, Real Zaragoza.
To the dismay of the Barca faithful, Real Madrid have now opened up a gap of seven points at the top of the Spanish Primera’s league standings. The Catalans are now significantly behind Real Madrid in the title race and can even fail to claim their
fourth Spanish title on the trot.
Lionel Messi was quite agitated at the end of the match against Villarreal. He expressed that the referees are stubborn and arrogant. Furthermore, he stated that the officials threaten to pull out a card at the slightest incident.
While talking to reporters, the Argentine was quoted as saying:
"Sometimes they are arrogant, and they threaten to pull out a card at the most minor provocation."
Ironically, Barcelona are believed to be a team depending upon aid from the match officials on several occasions.
Barcelona’s next match is against Real Sociedad another slipup in the league will definitely put an end to their title ambitions.
