The Spanish International has stated that he is content with the appointment of Guardiola’s assistant as the new head coach of La Blaugrana.
Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez has expressed his pleasure at seeing the club’s assistant coach, Tito Vilanova, being given the responsibility to manage the Catalans from the next season onwards.
The World Cup winner exclaimed that since Vilanova has been serving the Spanish giants under Pep Guardiola, he is the most suitable candidate to take over the reins at the Catalan capital.
Xavi stated that even though the news of the club’s soon-to-be former manager’s departure was a bit of a shock for him, he is satisfied to see that someone from the club’s management has been given the role to lead the team.
It was announced last month that Pep Guardiola will not renew his contract with the current UEFA Champions League title holders. The man, who served as the club’s boss for the past 4 seasons, expressed that he will part ways with the Nou Camp outfit in the
summer.
Guardiola’s last game in charge of Barca will be the Copa del Rey final on May 25th, as his contract with the Catalans will expire soon afterwards.
Although several players from the Barcelona squad expressed their desire to see the Spanish tactician continue as their head coach, the 41-year-old’s final decision was to exit from the footballing juggernauts.
The news of Guardiola’s departure forced the club to look for an appropriate replacement and Azulgrana were quick to announce that Tito Vilanova will take over from the next season onwards.
While talking to reporters, Xavi quoted:
It was a surprise for everyone that Pep decided not to continue. We're grateful for all that he has done here in these four years, but Tito is well qualified, he's somebody who is very well respected in the changing room and he understands very well the
philosophy of this club. We have to adapt quickly to the circumstances."
"It's good that Tito is continuing because the mechanics will be the same. It's the least drastic change, because it's a change of continuity. He won't change a lot of things.”
