The ball being used in the Copa del Rey is causing trouble for a lot of players and even Tito Vilanova recently complained about it; and now Xavi Hernandez has added his name to the list of players who have given a negative opinion about the ball.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 recently won their Copa del Rey fixture against Cordoba and now the Catalan giants have a two away goal advantage over the Segunda Division Opponents.
Even though La Blaugrana won, there is still something that bothered them throughout the game and it was the ball which they were playing from.
All the Spanish teams are playing with the same ball in the Copa del Rey which will be used for the Confederations Cup that will be taking place soon and which the Spanish national team is going to be a part of.
Recently, Barcelona coach, Tito Vilanova, spoke about the ball as well and expressed how he thinks it is light and labelled it as a ‘beach ball.
The Catalan boss said that the teams should be given a ball worthy of a Champions League and stated:
“I believe we need to play with a ball worthy of the Champions League, though. The Copa ball is a beach ball. I don’t know why we cannot have a decent ball for the Cup.”
While many footballing pundits and fans thought that Tito Vilanova was being unreasonable; therefore, the interviewers thought about taking comments from a player who has actually played with the ball himself.
Therefore, the press decided to talk about it with the Spanish midfielder, Xavi Hernandez, who gave his opinion on the ball and compared it with the one which was used in the FIFA World Cup 2010 – the Jabulani.
“It is a lighter ball that resembles the Jabulani [the criticised ball from the 2010 World Cup]. You can see, it behaves strangely when passing and when the field is not quite right, it moves around a bit, but we have to adapt, we will play at the Confederations
Cup with this ball.”
The Spanish national team will soon be using the same ball when they will take part in the Confederations Cup.
