Xavier Doherty recalled for injured Nathan Hauritz
Xavier Doherty has been recalled to the one-day squad for Australia, after Nathan Hauritz sustained an injury during the second one-day international (ODI) against England at Hobart.
Earlier, Doherty was dropped from the World Cup squad, and Hauritz was preferred over the left-arm spinner to lead the team in the spin department at the mega event. However, the injury to Hauritz has opened the door for Doherty yet again to be a part of
the team.
The left-arm spinner, who represents http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854, was in the Australian team for the first ODI but failed to impress the selectors and didn’t pick-up any wicket in the match.
Tasmanian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 criticised the Australian selectors when the left-arm spinner was dropped from the Australian team, and Hauritz was preferred in the World Cup at the expense of Doherty.
The Chairman of Selectors for Australia Andrew Hilditch stated that the Australian squad for the series against England would be reviewed after Hauritz’ situation is cleared.
Hauritz was due to have scans on his shoulder today and will be hoping that the injury is not of a serious nature.
Hilditch said, “With the unfortunate injury to Nathan Hauritz during last night's win, Xavier Doherty has been added to the Australian squad. Xavier has an excellent domestic one-day record and we are sure he will seize this opportunity to again play for
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.”
Doherty will be delighted with the opportunity he has got. He was brought into the Ashes squad for Australia last year, but failed to perform at the Test level. Although, Doherty hasn’t made any impression early in his ODI career, he still has a chance to
catch the eyes of the selectors.
Australia has suffered a lot in recent times with injury problems to key players. Apart from Hauritz, Shaun Tait also sustained an injury in the second match of the series against England.
Star middle-order batsman Michael Hussey picked up a hamstring problem during the first match of the series, and was ruled out of the remaining series and possibly the World Cup.
Shaun Marsh grabbed his opportunity with both hands after he was drafted into the team for the injured Hussey. Doherty will also be looking to follow in the foot-steps of Marsh and inspire the selectors.
