Xavier Doherty to replace Nathan Hauritz for England ODI series
Australian spinner Xavier Doherty has been recalled to the Australian side for the third and fourth One Day Internationals against England.
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s National Selection Panel announced on Saturday that the Tasmanian spin bowler has been called into the squad to replace fellow spinner, Nathan Hauritz, who was injured in the second ODI against England on Friday.
“With the unfortunate injury to Nathan Hauritz during last night’s win, Xavier Doherty has been added to the Australian squad,” Cricket Australia’s chairman of the selectors’ panel Andrew Hilditch told the reporters.
Hauritz, who was named in the World Cup squad and called back for the second ODI, injured his right shoulder following a dive to stop the ball during Friday’s game. He had to be taken off the field at Hobart and was immediately taken to the hospital where
scans revealed that he had dislocated his shoulder.
Doherty had his World Cup chances boosted as Hauritz was brought in the World Cup squad at his expense. Doherty’s captain for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480, recently slammed the selectors for dropping the spinner from the 15-man squad for the World Cup.
There has been an ongoing tussle between the two spinners as Hauritz was overlooked for the 2010-11 Ashes series in favour of Doherty. However, the latest blow for Hauritz could open the door for Doherty to take part in the coveted event that starts from
February 2011.
Hauritz will be undergoing further scans that would determine whether he needs a surgery or not. His chances to play in the World Cup seem doubtful at this stage; however, Hilditch said that the squad will be reviewed after the fourth ODI on 26 January,
2011.
“The squad will be reviewed at the conclusion of the fourth game in the Commonwealth Bank Series when the NSP has further information regarding the injury status of various players,” Hilditch said.
Australia have been plagued with injuries as pacer Shaun Tait suffered a thigh strain in the same game. Australian players already out of the team due to injuries include Mitchell Johnson, Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting.
