Xavier Musketeers overpower Georgia Bulldogs 70-56:  NCAA Basketball Recap
Xavier Musketeers used all fourteen players for the first time in NCAA Basketball Tournament 2011 and roared to their 4th consecutive win by downing Georgia Bulldogs 70-56.
The inclusion of talented young players in the team is working pretty well for Musketeers so far and this has also lessened the burden on the shoulders of seniors, most notably guard Tu Holloway, who scored only12 points in this
game.
He is one man, who is certainly happy with the way things are going;
“It makes the game a lot easier for me. I don't have to force the issue and sometimes take bad shots or have bad turnovers because I'm trying to make plays. As a point guard, that's what I want. Maybe if I was a shooting guard,
I wouldn't be happy. But I'm a point guard. It makes the game easy for me when I can dish the rock off."
Holloway entered this game with a bruised finger but despite that, put up a good show. He was assisted well by Kenny Frease who also pounded 12 points including 6 for 10 from the two point range and 9 rebounds. Travis Taylor, who
came off the bench late was also monumental and completed a double-double by draining in 10 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
From Georgia, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored a game high 14 points including 3 for 4 from the free throw line. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, he had a little support from other players as only Gerald Robinson (10) managed to
end with scores in double figures.
Andre Walker, Dezmine Wells and Dee Davis all contributed in an early 10 point run to put Musketeers in a commanding position right from the start. Mark Lyons and Travis Taylor joined the party later to give the Musketeer a 14-3
advantage halfway through the first half.
Gerald Robinson and Dustin Ware broke the dry shooting spell for the Bulldogs and reeled off an 8 point unanswered spurt to reduce the gap in scores to 14-11. However Tu and Lyons kept on finding their shots in the next few minutes
to ensure that the Musketeers entered the second half with a 28-19 lead.
The Musketeers continued from where they left off in the first half and pulled off a 12-0 run to virtually put the game to bed at 40-19. That lead grew to 54-27 midway through the second half and a 13-2 run by the Bulldogs has
little effect on the flow of the game.
