Xavier’s volleyball team defeats Amity Regional by 3-0 on Thursday
Volleyball has been able to find itself a home in the hearts of young athletes as an increasing number of high school students take up the sport. Not only the boys but the girls too are enthusiastic about volleyball.
For this reason, various high schools now have training programs that provide these young players with the opportunity to make the most of their potential and set them well in order to be taken up by professional university level teams.
So in case you want to watch a thrilling game of volleyball, than all you need to do is to head for your local school gymnasium and watch high school teams compete each other in a skilful manner.
One such match took place on Thursday between the Xavier’s boys volleyball team as well as Amity Regional. The contest took place at the home ground of the team that was bale to steal the show, i.e. Xavier’s Art Kohs Gymnasium.
Despite the fact that Xavier won the match in a clean sweep, Amity did not make it an easy job to do so. Each set was fiercely competed by both the teams in a sparky display of volleyball skill. By the time that Xavier was celebrating its home ground victory
and a disappointed Amity team was heading out of the courts with heads hung low, the scoreboard displayed the following final set scores, 25-16, 27-25 and 26-24.
With their recent victory, Xavier has been able to improve its record to a total number of five wins. These have been accomplished at the cost of suffering defeats that amount to be four. In comparison, the record of Amity does not show an unequal statistics
despite the fact that they lost their last game. Amity shoulders a record of 5-4 as well.
The start of the first set of the game went pretty smoothly for Xavier. It was not hard for them to take a lead early on. Once they had control of the game, Xavier did not let it slip out of their hands and kept the pressure up on Amity. As a result, to
bag the opening set of the game at 25-16 was an easy job for Xavier.
It was the second and the third games in which the Falcons had a hard time from their opponents who made the sets long and hard. However, the Falcons prevailed by sealing the deal at 27-25 and 26-24 respectively.
John Post, the coach of the Xavier team made the following comments after the match had reached its close, “We've had a rough stretch going 1-4. We had to come out and play focused volleyball and we did. We really needed this win.”
Next in line for Xavier is a match against Cheshire who has yet to suffer a defeat. This match is scheduled to take place on Monday.
