Xbox 360 'open tray' error.

Question

Ive had my Halo 3 Limeted Edition 360 Console for 8months now. Out of the blue it froze now it will not read any games or movies or CDs, it just says reading then says open tray. it doesn't even say error or anything and i put brand new discs in it it just doesn't do anything afterwards. the screens are the same and everything it just seems like it won't read discs.

I had this it's really annoying I had to put my 360 on it's side and slap the top about 1 second after pressing the open button to open the tray and when closing slap the top just after the tray closes. Hope this works for you too

Wow i have the Halo 3 Edition and this is the exact same thing that happened to me...I put in a disc and it says reading and after two seconds it'll just say Open Tray..So i called Microsoft and they said they would fix it for free but too bad i had already opened the actual console and voided my warranty so they wouldn't fix...so i decided to open it again since Microsoft won't take it..so i opened up the disc tray and took out the lens not the lens itself but the part with the lens on it so i wiped the lens and there is also a lens under the top lens so wiped that one off too and then i put everything back together and it actually worked !

But i wouldn't suggest you to open your 360 up unless you already have opened it before, instead i'll just suggest to call Microsoft and they'll fix it for Free.

your screwed, the console has an internal error, most likely the laser has malfunctioned, as long as the red lights don't come on there is hope of microsoft fixing it. also try opening the tray, then closing the tray, mine did this alot before 3 red lights appeared. so it could be your xbox 360 is on it way to joining the many terminated consoles
