  1. On the assumption that you already get Internet access through a modem on your computer, and you want to use your Ethernet port to feed that connection to the Xbox: find out how to turn on Internet Connection Sharing for your particular computer. It will turn your computer into a router and offer IP addresses to the devices it sees on the Ethernet port, using DHCP.

If you have a cable or DSL modem, get a router so you can share the modem with both the computer and the Xbox.

  2. Andrew i had the same problem and here's what you do.

You have to connect the Ethernet cord straight to the back of the a cable modem or a wireless router.  you also have to make an hot mail email account. for the IP address you need to click on. Start. Than click on  control panel  than click on network and Internet connections. than click on network connections. and from there it should be the last one on that page it should say local area connection. or high speed Internet. click on that and than click on support. and you can see your IP Address from there. and you can also click details. for more info on  your computer and  Internet

  3. If you have no choice but to connect to your PC & have no luck with the the steps above, you may need to buy a "crossover cable" which is a special type of ethernet cable.

Have read a few pages that state that's a must.

  4. if you have a router, plug it in the router instead of your computer than it will work.
