Xbox 360 RROD zomg! Help! Advice! Not a typical question...?

Hey- I got a RROD - I was so shocked for a couple seconds- then I turned it off, removed all cables and plugged everything back in.

works fine now.

But I'm guessing it'll break soon and that me unplugging and plugging back in- all that was doing was just causing enough movement to make contact on the sauder points and such? Right?

Also I live overseas, I have a chance to send it back to Microsoft if it breaks again- umm- is this a dumb thing to do since I'm second owner?

I'm out of warranty aren't I? It's been in repair once (with the person who owned it before) but it's been a year since that happaned.

Since I bought it (A couple months ago)

I barely use it- like maybe 20 minutes every 3 days (like thats just averaging it out- generally like 1 hour once a week or something)...

What do you think? Since I'm second owner just wait for it too RROD and try to repair myself since it's already out of warranty? Or should I just get it reparied for a 100 bucks with microsoft? Or see if I can get it in under warranty for RROD?

please help.

Thanks

  1. Red Rings on your 360 can also mean a cord is loose. I had my AV cord loose one time and I thought my system had broken, too.

  2. The red ring warranty is 3 yrs from purchase date but since you arent the original purchaser im not sure if they will fix it for free.

Call the support number. But in the mean time, you can do the towel trick if you want to be able to play for a bit.

Take off the hard drive, AV cables (cables that hook up to your TV) and remove any disks from the tray. Place your 360 on a towel and then wrap it up with around 3 or 4 bath towels. make sure to cover it COMPLETELY. Plug it in and make sure that the power brick isn't covered. Turn it on and let it stay on for 45 minutes to 1 hour and a half. After this time, remove the towels and place a fan on it or just leave it there to cool for around an hour. Pop a game in, hook it up to your tv and play.

It should play for a good 2hours at least and up to 2 days before the ring comes back.

**This DOES NOT void your warranty**

  3. I got the RROD when my AVI cord somehow got loose and the RROD shows a hardware failure so yeah... it was probably the loose plug(s).

  4. If the original owner sent it in before, that 360 will be under his name and MS won't fix for you for free.

  5. I think the RROD is a instant repair. No $ required. But check with microsoft just in case
