Question:

Xbox 360 Red Rings of Death.....Any help is appreciated.?

My Xbox 360 just recently got the red rings of death. The thing is though, when I remove the harddrive, they go away. That would be good, except for the fact that for some reason, my AV video cord appears not to be working. When it is plugged in and I have it turned to the right channel, the xbox dashboard still doesn't come up. Still a blue screen. Is there a way a can fix it without sending it off for repair?

  1. I'd say get a new AV cord and see if that helps? If it does, get a new harddrive and transfer your gamertag.

  2. This happened to me last month!

The problem is the AV cables!

somehow they messed up inside. Call MS and they'll send you a new one. It will take 2 weeks. Mine already got here

  3. ahh

  4. When you say red ring of death I will guess that you are talking about the three lights because that is what most people refer to as the red ring of death. As far a I know you could damage your xbox 360 for good if you do the towel trick. I did some research for you and I did find a site that does some xbox 360 repair guide reviews. I would recommend that no one try's those repairs that are on youtube. So I guess visit the source and let me know how it went.

  5. Hi,

Ok one thing you can try and it might sound obvious but try making sure that the switch on your AV cable is switched to the right format.

Have you got it switched to TV or HDTV?

Sometimes this can cause a problem if it is switched to the wrong format.

    Hope this helps!

  6. Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This  problem can be solved by uninstalling new software, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

  7. if your saying the av cable is the problem then all you should do is buy an av cord oh and something like this happened to my friend and it turns out to be that he blow the outlet it was in so try a different outlet also you should buy an intercooler they really help also if you move your 360 while the game is running then that very well may have ruined it and your having grinding noises (that's what happened to my old xbox360) then what you could do is either take apart the front of your 360 and look for a certain magnet and pull it out and put it back in (i recommend not to this because it might void the warranty) an another thing you can do is just buy a new core and once you bought a new core just put old 360s harddrive in the new one

  8. i fixed it myself manually and didn't mail it back to microsoft

its easy and you can do it yourself look at that website ( step by step repair guide that solves the most xbox 360 common problems permanently)

  9. There is 1 solution but its only temporary. you HAVE to but a new one. since basicly your Xbox is broken now.

The temporary trick is to use the towel trick:

    1) Get a few towels

2)Place towels all around the Xbox. make sure there are no open spots vissible.

    3) leave Xbox on for 30 minuets to 40 minets (keep something with you just incase a fire might start. its very rare but might happen)

    4) take off towls and let Xbox cool for 20 minuets

    5) turn on Xbox
