Xbox 360 Updates?

How can i install updates for my 360. I wanted the update so that i can play original xbox games on my 360. but i dont have online and i would rather not pay. yea i know, sounds stupid. but can u just tell me the basics to installing it. thx ....

u can already play some xbox games.but u cant install anything but xbox live without xbox live.there is a free month w/ a brand new 1
