Hi i have a 32" Sony CRT TV and an Xbox 360.

The TV screen shows games in 4:3 ratio perfectly you you know nice and detailed but when i choose widescreen via the tv remote it just seems to stretch the screen rather than re-format it!

I have searched through both TV and Xbox 360 display settings but everything is set up correctly to widescreen.

Can anyone help?

  1. How do you have the Xbox hooked up to your Sony?  Composite video (yellow rca connector)?

Component Video (red, blue and green rca connector)?

I may be wrong but I believe to display in wide screen you will need to have component video connection.  Why?  Because composite video will only support standard definition video which is 480i.  You may have to change to progressive scan too.

Also, the other poster is correct.  Your TV will only show wide screen correctly if the OUTPUT of your Xbox is set to wide screen.  That is why when you choose wide screen on your TV the picture is stretched - it is trying to make a wide screen picture out of a 4:3 picture.

You will need to search your Xbox manual further for information about video settings in order to get the proper wide screen output.

  2. Don't change it on the TV remote, change it in the Xbox !!!!

The TV can't magically display anymore information than you provide to it.

Tell the Xbox to display in 16:9 and you'll have better luck.
