Xbox 360 gets Ring of Death sometimes?

my xbox 360 now gets the ring of death sometimes. i called xbox support and they said that they could fix it but he also said that if they test it and it doesn't have the red ring of death, they would send it back. do the service people really check or should i call again to verify the details?

I read that the actual red ring is only 3 of the 4 segments of the ring. You can also get a solid red ring if you your cable in the back of your xbox is loose. I would check that first, then send it in. Good luck!

Edit: Two of my friends have had the real red ring of death. They both sent in their 360's and were both fixed and both boxes are in great shape now. You always run the risk of it not "acting" up when you send it in, and shipping is expensive. You may want to check all your pricing and see what your cheapest options are.
