My 360 RRoD yesterday, am i still covered by the extended 3 year warranty, this is my 2nd xbox, my first died in 2006, so microsoft gave me a new one in 2006 as well, but now this one died as well, i dont no what caused it, could it be a faulty hard drive because i bought a working 2nd hand 360 off Ebay for cheap about 1 month ago it came with a hard drive (HDD) as well so i swapped it with my older HDD and then yesterday it kept freezing then the 3 lights came on, so now i have 1 broken xbox, 1 working xbox and 2 hard drives that could be faulty and breaking my future 360's, what should i do?

Could it be faulty hard drive connectors?

I have been swapping the HDD on the recently dead console quite abit to back up my saves?

Could i have damaged the connectors

The reason i ask is that i dont want the 2 HDD's breaking my other 2nd hand 360 as that has no warranty at all

These consoles are really poorly made if you cant even change the HDD a few times!

Im surprised it lasted this long

Thank in advance for any advice!

  1. If the RROD goes away when the HD is unplugged then it's the HD! Otherwise it's not. If you have an E67 or E69 error on screen then it's the hard drive.

MS have a 3 year guarantee for 3RROD issues which will be from the date of purchase of the original 360.

Call MS and get them to fix it for free.

  2. It depends on when you first bough the xbox as you say the first unit died in 2006 thats 2 years a go, subsequent replacements still carry over the same warrranty period.

You have not done yourself any good by swapping the hard drives as once you open the box or alter the firmware to a non approved on you then VOID the warranty.

From what we hear the RROD is not hard drive related but in the master circuit board, yes you may have damaged to connectors but as you have opened it the chances are that you have voided the warranty and have to pay for a fix unless they cannot trace that you have opened it (make sure it has the disk in that they gave you).

  3. yes ur still covered by thw 3 year warrenty and u wont get the RRoD from the hardrive its not ur fault its just a fault that the 360s have.

when i sent myn away i got myn back and fixed in 2 weeks

  4. You will still be covered because the 360 has not been out for 3 years yet. Just call Microsoft and they'll send you a box to send it to them in. Should take 2 - 3 weeks and is no cost to you.
