A friend of mine told me that he'd bought an XBOX Live Gold subscription, he didn't specify the length of the subscription but he told me it was from amazon and he said that when he activated the subscription he got 5000 microsoft points.

So if i buy a card from amazon i'll actually get microsoft points?

what length of subscription do i need to purchase?
