I dont think its the disk because it does it at start up at times and it did it on the dash board when the disk wasnt even in.

Also it does this without online play. But it seems to be playing dvds just fine.

  1. ?????????? can u play

thats what tv looks like when u start the system up every time oo xbox 360 logo

whats the problem? dose it stay like that? do u got red rights?

  2. You might have a faulty video cable. It's just an idea.

  3. Check if the video cable is plugged in properly, if it is, then it may be the cable and you need a new one.

  4. There's sadly no chance that its your AV cable, as you said DVDs work fine.

What the problem is, is that the BGA (ball grid array, an arrangement of 'under the chip' solder) is damaged, enough so that the system will work(no E74, which you will get if this worsens), but enough that you get those "artifacts" appear.

If you have warranty, PLEASE send it in. If you don't:

The temporary solution (that can become permanent if coupled with efficient cooling, and the X-clamp replacement) is the "Infamous Towel Trick"

The permanent fix is a complete re-ball, or an efficient reflow, which can be done via a heatgun.
