Xbox 360 red rings info?

i recently sent in my xbox to microsoft and am wondering is there a way to know the status of the xbox. If it's anywhere near done or will i get a new one.

if i am not mistaken they try to fix it, or if the repair exceeds the xbox value they will just send you a new one
