Xbox 360 ring of death help

Question

my son has his 360 console since xmass and takes very good care of it, today he told that the ring of death came up and he just switched it off an then on and it was ok, iv looked it up on you tube but still dont really understand it, does anyone know what causes this and can it be fixed and how , i mean to have this expensive console for only a short time and it go wallop its outrageous ,

the rings of death means there is a hardware failure usually doue to overheating. it is a common problem with the 360 console. what you need to do is first turn it off and let it sit for about 30 seconds. turn it back on and see if it works. if not then turn it back off and disconnect the power supply from the console for a few minutes. if it still doesnt work the call 1-800-4-my-xbox and tell them the problem. they will send you an empty box through ups/fed ex with the directions to replace your xbox.

it happened to me and i had me a refurbished xbox in about 2 weeks, and i never had problems yet.

the red ring of death means your 360 overheated so you have to send it in and you will get it back in about a month : ( go to xbox.com/support and you will learn all you need to know : )

wrap your unit in a towel and let it run for about an hour. the idea is that it will over heat and go into safe mode an reset. or call the microsoft nerds

OK-Listen to me, all you have to do is contact Microsoft at:

Tell them you got 3 rings, all xboxs have a 3 year warranty so they will tell you to send it in, and they will fix it for free($100 if the warranty is void or expired)

Hopefully, you have gotten the two year warranty from someone and can just replace it. Or maybe you are under the 30 day warranty and can replace it. Otherwise, there are tons of sites that can help you solve the red ring of death. They even give pictures to help you out. I'm quite sure they are better than youtube.

the xbox 360 always has a replacement guarentee (im fairly sure because i have had friends with the problem) and what you do is call them,send in your 360 they replace it and in about 20days later you get it.Now the new 360 is guarenteed not to have red ring of death but it is not out yet,and the rare halo 3 edition does not get it either.

DO NOT wrap it in  towel!!!!! you can cause a fire!!

RING Microsoft and tell them your consoles Serial number (on back of console) they will post out a box and label to you. Box up 360 post off to them, they will repair it for you for free.

I had a similar problem and when i called the microsoft help line, they told me to mail it to them. I did and it came back fixed, free of charge. It happened again, and i mailed it again and they gave me a new one.

i had the same problem just send it into microsoft and they will send you a new one for free... i didnt have a warranty on mine and i had it since two christmas' ago and they still sent me a new one for free... takes about a month but its good and well worth it

Only the techs at Microsoft know how to fix the ring of death, and they're not sharing their secrets.  It happens quite frequently to regular 360's as a number of my friends have had them and maintained them and it's happened 2-3 times to each of them.  They sent their systems to Microsoft while they were under warranty and were able to pay the difference to upgrade to a pro (which to date I have never heard of having the red light of death).  The pro is a better model with better features and also has a far bigger hard drive, i suggest this upgrade if possible and I hope your son can continue to enjoy his Xbox 360.  Try reporting the incident to the store where you bought it and see what they suggest, which will probably be sending it back to Microsoft and/or updating.  I hope this helps.

the ring of death just happens randomly  but if u send it back to xbox they will fix it/ send u a new one.

tips to avoid it...plug it directly into the wall, no extension cords, don't keep it on for long periods of time and give it lots of breathing room!

how many rings of red came up? if there was 3 that means its an internal problem. my xbox has done the same thing a couple times. i just turned it off and left it for a couple hours just to be safe. hope this helps!

you can send it back and they will fix it for free, i bought a 2nd xbox used from a friend and it had the problem, i bought the xclamp fix on ebay and fixed it myself, now while my original 360 is being fixed at microsoft i have this one as a backup to play.

I bought them from this guy and he goves very detailed instructions.. you can even see my feedback in there..
