Microsoft can write the Xbox 360 down as a success as the current generation console manages to cross the 65-million units sold mark and is still going.
The current generation console war began when the Nintendo Wii hit the market and would not stop selling. The Xbox 360 was introduced soon after as Microsoft attempted to halt Nintendo from taking over the market with the Wii. However, the rush meant that the consoles they released were prone to breaking down. In fact, three out of every four launch period consoles suffered from the Red Ring Of Death, which rendered the console useless, and had to be returned.
Sony released the PlayStation 3 a year later and although the console managed to claw back some lost ground recently, however, it turns out that Microsoft has nearly 50 percent of the market share in terms of the current generation of consoles.
Instead of boasting about how successful the console has been, Yusuf Mehdi, the Chief Marketing Officer of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Division, explained that the company planned on expanding the Xbox experience by integrating it with Windows 8.
He said, “With the launch of Windows 8, we'll bring Xbox entertainment to everyone.” Before continuing, "We've got ideas for making all the entertainment you love more personal, interactive and social across the devices you love-and on the phenomenal Windows 8 devices that are to come.”
As for what those ideas and plans are, it turns out that consumers need not have to wait too long as the consumer electronics and software giant is set to unveil everything in their upcoming E3 Press Conference in June.
He said, "You'll see the first of that next week at E3 where we will showcase the very best of Xbox. We'll unveil new games, show new ways to enjoy the entertainment you love and, as always, we'll have a few surprises to share."
One thing that is nearly certain is the Xbox LIVE Marketplace being made available across all Windows 8 enabled devices, yet what comes after that is speculation at this point with a number of experts and analysts all pitching their ideas.
