Dashboard receives a makeover which brings less known titles to the forefront. Microsoft are “extremely excited about” the update.
The Xbox 360’s Dashboard has undergone a number of changes since its humble beginnings. New features were added, a number of new changes were made and Kinect functionality was also introduced.
However, one thing that left many of the smaller developers in the dark was how the games were listed in the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the dashboard. The bigger titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Gears of War 3 were at the forefront as one
would expect but one had to deep rather deep in order to find the Indie games.
However, with the success of titles such as Limbo and Super Meat Boy, the landscape of the gaming industry is changing and with it so is the Dashboard layout.
Microsoft commented on the change, “As you’ve now noticed, the Xbox Live Marketplace was updated to change the way games are surfaced to customers.”
The statement continued, “Microsoft is continually working to better organise our digital game content on the platform and your feedback played a part in that.”
It then went on to point out the change in layout which would benefit the indie games community better, “Part f this new organisation means that Xbox Live Indie Games now has a tile at the top level of the marketplace right next to Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox
Games on Demand.”
Later on in the statement Microsoft claimed that the change really excited them and hoped that it would give smaller titles more time in the spotlight and a greater shot at success.
“This update is something we are extremely excited about as it really brings Xbox Live Indie Games to a higher level of visibility in the dashboard.”
The move is sure to excite the Indie developer community as well and everyone will be hoping that this means better titles for the Xbox 360, though one has to admit that everyone is hoping for some kind of hint as to what the next generation of Xbox consoles
will be capable of.
At this point though there is nothing but rumours and speculation.
