Question:

Xbox Live Connection Help?!?

For some reason I cannot connect to xbox live anymore. I got a new modem about a month ago and havent played xbox live since then. It use to work fine on my older modem. I do the direct cable to modem connection. The problem comes when I do the "test connection" it fails at the IP address part. I have tried resetting the modems, unplugging the cables etc etc. I have tried manually enterting my IP and my cable modem does not require a PPPOE username/password so it rules that out. I have tried with all my firewalls/antivirus's off. I have tried just about everything I could possibly read on the internet troubleshoots. Is it possible the modem is not compatible with xbox live? It is a motorola SB5102 and Shaw Cable is my internet provider. If anyone could possibly help me with this trouble it would be greatly appreciated!

  1. alright, here's what i had to do. i had the same problem but i have a different modem than you, but hopefully this works.

    this is for windows:

-before you start, delete anything you tried to configure in your xboxLIVE section on the xbox, and set everything to "automatic".

-start > control panel > network connections >

...click on the connection you are using. after you click that, you should see a little window with "status", "duration", "speed", etc.

-on the top there are two tabs, one is general, one is support. click on the support tab.

-now it should say your address type, IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

    -click below those on "Details..."

-this new tab says "network connection details". on top there is the physical address.

-write that down, go to your xboxLIVE configuration, and type that in the "alternate MAC address" section.

    good luck.
