Xbox Live Connection ?

How can I improve it? on my 2 games (I play these the most) my connection sucks but when I test it it everything works and I only get 3 bars. The games I play are Call Of duty 4 and Gta Iv. Sometimes I keep losing connection every second (literally). (Connection Interrupted Message)

Then sometimes I get connection but never get full bars but doesn't lagg.

How can I improve it or stop this from happening?

I am using a NEW linksys router fresh out of the box $69 at bestbuy.

Have you tried connecting the xbox directly to the internet and bypassing the router to rule out a problem with the xbox? If a direct connection to the internet gets you a good connection without lag, then chances are that the problem lies within one of the other computers connected to the router which is taking up bandwidth. I sometimes have this problem if I am trying to download something on my computer and forget to stop it before playing on xbox live. Also, it might help to close programs like MSN, or Yahoo Messenger. Try these things out, and good luck.
