Xbox Live Gamertag Change!?

i changed my gamertag and my friends say that on there friend list my old name is still on there. i went into a private chat with someone and it said my new gamertag but when people look to see who is online my old gamertag is on there what happened? please answer awarding best answer!!

If you just changed it, then I would at least give it a day or two before stressing about it.
