what is the difference. with silver can u play against ur friends or do u need gold?????????????????

you have to have gold to play almost every game with your friends on xbox live. SIlver i think is just allowing you to download stuff off the marketplace

Silver is a free subscription

Gold you have to pay for it so u can :

1- play online with other gamers around the world

2- u can have a video chat

if it is a barnd new console , the first three NEW gamertags on this console will get one free month gold trail membership for each of them

If you want to play against people online then you need Gold. If you just want to download things from the marketplace and get updates then use silver.

You can play online with other people if you have a gold membership, and you can only download some items from the marketplace if you have a silver membership.
