Xbox mtu error in college dorms?

I just moved into the dorm, and it cant connect to XBL from an MTU error. From my understanding, this means that not enough packets can be sent to play online correctly. I know other on my same building have connected to xbox live, so i was wondering if there is any special way to connect, because i know its possible.

I had the same problem at my College ever since Xbox original. Does your school use client software like "Smart Enforcer" or "Cisco Clean Access", my school did and that's why we couldn't connect any devices without a web browser to our networks. The way we got around this was by calling up the IT department, I'm not sure what happens next, I think you need to give them the MAC address or something like that, basically we just needed to get IT unblock our systems, after that they worked fine.
