Question:

Xbox screen has a purple tint. Why?

When i first got my xbox to go with my HDTV, i used the component cables for a while. But i then went and got myself a HDMI cable, and noticed a slight difference (if any). But now i want to put my surround sound on, but i'll need to use the component cables (sounds weird, but its alright).

But anyway, i go to play with my new surround sound, and the component cables. And there's a horrible purple tint, and the black is more of a very dark purple.

So i play around with the TV settings, by playing with the colors and brightness. But no difference. So i put the same settings as the HDMI screen, and it's still horrible.

Can anyone give me any ideas? I've checked all the obvious answers by checking to make sure they're plugged in properly, and what-not.

Thanks.

  1. check your AV cable make sure its plugged in all the way! i had this problem a while back... also try unplugging your xbox then your TV then plugging them back up... sometimes your TV needs to Reallocate the resolution.

  2. Either there's something wrong with the cable (damaged or loose), your electron guns are on the fritz, or the circuitry inside the monitor is going out.

Check the cable first. Wiggle it around, play with it, etc. and see if anything happens. If nothing is affected then it's an internal issue. Getting it repaired is going to be costly (a significant portion or more than the cost of the monitor). It's bad news, but you may just have to buy a new monitor.

If it comes down to a new monitor and you don't feel like switching over to LCD just yet, I'd highly recommend a Samsung CRT (17" or 19"). They're inexpensive and are of high quality.

It's rare, but the problem could also be the video card. You could try another monitor if you have one sitting around and see if it exhibits the same problem.

  3. did you unconnect and reconnect all your video cables?  If so, then it could be a bad video cable or could be a bad pin on the TV input or the xbox output.  But first try with a known good cable.

  4. Well it might actually be your surround sound system, I had the same problem with mine because it was magnetized. Where the purple color is there might be a stereo right there, try just moving your stereo around.
