Xevi Pujolar believes Valtteri Bottas is more adaptable than Pastor Maldonado – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief race engineer, Xevi Pujolar has said that their driver, Valtteri Bottas has proved himself more adaptable than his teammate, Pastor Maldonado in the 2013 Formula 1 season so far.
Bottas performed amazingly well as reserve driver at the Grove based team in 2012. He replaced Bruno Senna in many practice sessions during the last season and impressed everyone with his remarkable pace in the Young Driver Test held at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The Finnish driver successfully managed to secure a race seat at the British squad and replaced Senna to drive alongside Maldonado in this season. However, he has not been able to score even a single point in the season until now.
Nevertheless, Pujolar has admired the performance of the 23-year-old in the first seven races of the season and expressed that the Finn has been very adaptable with everything as compared to the Venezuelan driver.
“You could say that they're both quite aggressive,” Pujolar said. “Pastor is a bit more specific and Valtteri I would say maybe is able to adapt himself more towards what is happening at each moment, but they are both quite aggressive.”
In addition, he said that both their drivers manage the tyres really well. But, he insisted that the 28-year-old is better with the tyre management due to which he earns a competitive advantage in the qualifying. However, he asserted that they have struggled more with Maldonado than Bottas in the season so far.
“At the same time then in the race both can be quite similar looking after the tyres, it's just that Pastor has got some requirements that would sometimes give him an advantage in qualifying it's just that he needs to feel it,” he said.
“All the problems we had with the car we were struggling more with him than with Valtteri,” he added.
Nonetheless, he said that they are trying their best to keep on making the essential developments in their car so as to come up stronger in the approaching races.
Let’s see whether Williams are able to score their first point in the British GP or not.
