Xevi Pujolar believes Williams can make progress in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief race engineer, Xevi Pujolar thinks that they can make progress and gain positions in the season ahead despite being unable to score even a single
point in the first five races.
The Grove based squad have struggled with their pace in the season until now and both their drivers, Pastor Maldonado and Valtteri Bottas have not been able to
attain any points. Besides, they have not even been able to make their way into the second qualifying session in any of the five rounds.
It will be interesting to mention that Maldonado scored his maiden victory in Spain during the last season after claiming his first ever pole position. Moreover,
he is the only Venezuelan driver who has won a race in Formula 1. However, he failed to pick any point in this year’s Spanish GP and came 14th after qualifying for 17th grid slot.
Despite facing disappointment in the first five grands prix, Pujolar has said that they are positively looking forward to make some essential developments in their
car to help their drivers to attain better results in the forthcoming races.
“At the moment it's still possible, and we cannot give up now,” he told ESPNF1. “What we've done now is the fifth race and races are going fast, but we need to
try to improve. We cannot say 'Oh, we'll give up now', there's long way to go and we don't want to stay in these positions until the end of the year, we want to make progress.”
Furthermore, he said that they have got the potential to score competitive points, but they have not been able to maximise it in the season so far. Nevertheless,
he asserted that they are not feeling upset and are aiming to come up stronger in the approaching races with some significant step-ups in their car.
“I think there is potential,” he said. “I mean, if you look at the people at front there is quite big gap, but there is an intermediate group that we think we can
make progress and gain positions.”
Let’s see whether the British team will be able to score any points in the Monaco GP or not.
