Xevi Pujolar says Williams need time to make progress – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief engineer Xevi Pujolar has said that they need some time to make the essential developments in their car in order to be able to score points in the season ahead.
The Grove based squad have not been able to score even a single point in the season until now. Both their drivers, Pastor Maldonado and Valtteri Bottas have struggled with some huge reliability issues because of which they have failed to match the pace of
their rivals in the first six rounds.
Although, Pujolar has said that they are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to come up stronger in the approaching races. But, he insisted that they need some time to make the necessary developments.
“I think it will be more step-by-step. Hopefully there will be times when the steps are bigger,” Pujolar said to Sky Sports F1. “We won't suddenly go from where we are to the top four. I think we're making progress and it's getting better and better. But
until we get the car in Q3 and have the car in points, we cannot say we've done it. We think, especially with the testing we've done here, it's probably the time that we feel that car is changing the most from everything we've done so far. We need to see if
we can consolidate that.”
It is to be noted that Maldonado performed convincingly well in the last season and came 15th in the drivers’ championship with 45 points. Furthermore, he stood ahead of his old teammate, Bruno Senna and behind Paul di Resta of Force India. Besides,
the Venezuelan driver impressed everyone with his amazing performance in the last year’s Spanish GP in which he claimed his maiden victory after securing his first ever pole position. However, he has not been able to show any commendable performance in this
season until now.
In contrast, Bottas who showed some remarkable pace in the previous year’s Young Driver Test has also remained unable to prove his potential in the first six rounds of the season.
It will be interesting to see how the British squad perform in the season ahead and whether they will be able to improve their pace or not.
