The Swiss international has insisted that he is comfortable in playing both on the wings and as an attacking midfielder.
Bayern reached a pre-season agreement with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xherdan-Shaqiri-c37074 in February for an undisclosed fee. The player impressed in the Swiss side’s sensational UEFA Champions League campaign last season and Bayern
Munich set their sights to sign the winger.
Shaqiri agreed to sign a four-year deal with the German giants and left Basel, where he had won three back-to-back Swiss Super League titles and two Swiss Cups.
The winger insists that he is a versatile player and can play in many positions. He admitted that he does not prefer any position and wants the coach to decide where he should be playing for Bayern.
The 20-year old stated that a player has to be flexible in his approach to make sure he gets the required playing time. Shaqiri certainly faces some tough competition for places as the likes of Thomas Muller and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 are
candidates to play on the right wing.
The attacker can play in a behind the striker role where he will have to beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toni-Kroos-c35425 to cement his place. However, it will be up to Jupp Heynckes to decide which position is more suitable for the youngster when the season begins.
“I'm a very versatile player and I wouldn't like to say where I should play. I can play behind the strikers or on the wings. Obviously it's important for players to be flexible in order to increase their chances of playing,” he
was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Swiss international praised Matthias Sammer and claimed that the chief is totally involved in everything the team is doing. He added that the chief has also had a word with him on the field and admitted that the conversation
has helped him.
“He always got stuck in as a player too. As sporting director, he's responsible for how we perform and obviously he wants to know about everything that's going on with the team. We've had a short exchange and he'll be in contact
with the players a lot more in future,” he concluded.
Xherdan Shaqiri has won the Swiss Player of the Year twice.
