Xiaoyu Liang overpowers Suwarno Renna in qualifying round of SCG Thailand Open 2012
Women’s Singles expert Xiaoyu Liang trounced Suwarno Renna and advanced into next stage of qualifying round in the SCG Thailand Open 2012 on June 5, 2012.
This epic 54-minute tussle lasted for three exhausting sets and got resolved with final figures of 30-28, 20-22 and 21-9.
The Singaporean shuttler displayed superior craft in opening and last segments of the show to steal limelight while Suwarno Renna surrendered after dominating the mid part of this battle.
There was lot of sensation involved in this game as first two sets turned breath-taking contests and kept the crowd glued to their chairs.
In first set of the match, both shuttlers snapped each other’s heels all the way to game point situation. None of them could establish a comfortable lead and remained close on scoreboard.
The Indonesian campaigner dominated a small portion of game with 4-1 total in the beginning but it did not create any difference as her challenger came out of this deficit and ended first half with 11-10.
Later part was undoubtedly the best chunk of match as both contenders showed great retaliating skills.
Though, Xiaoyu Liang opened second half with six consecutive rallies and reached at 17-11 but she could not enjoy this authoritative position for much long as Suwarno Renna first narrow the gap with 16-17 and then caught her at 19-19.
There were six times when they reached at game point situation but could not tip the scale in their favour. Finally, the Singaporean girl won this neck-to-neck race by registering decisive figure of 30-28.
However, it was not end of drama as next game turned even more captivating due to their mesmerising performances.
Women’s Singles experts Xiaoyu and Suwarno Renna stayed almost equal until one-minute break but the former picked up the pace after interval and got into comfortable position to seal a straight-set victory.
She was standing just one shot away at 20-15 when Suwarno Renna earned seven consecutive points and brought her down with 22-20 score on the board.
The Indonesian was expected to deliver an explosive performance in third set also but she got diffuse as Xiaoyu wrapped the show with final total of 21-9.
