Xiaoyu Liu secures Women’s 50m breast-stroke title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series produced another impressive result with the performance of Xiaoyu Liu in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 50m breast-stroke final race.
China’s Xiaoyu Liu began the final heat in thrilling fashion, while the other two contestants, Yulia Efimova of Russia and Rebecca Ejdervik of Sweden were engaged in a neck-to-neck battle. Liu went full throttle against her arch rivals and posted a dominating
time of 30.52 seconds to clinch the Women’s 50m breast-stroke title. Yulia Efimova earned silver medal in the respective meet after she touched the finishing wall and submitted a matchless time of 30.75 seconds.
Efimova was the gold medal winner in the Women’s 50m breast-stroke at the 2009 World Championship edition, in Rome. In addition, she won six gold medals in major swimming competitions at the European Championships during the period of 2007-2010.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Ejervik captured bronze medal by posting an impressive time of 31.20 seconds. Additionally, the other two contestants including Dorothea Brandt of Germany and Rong Fan of China also impressed the arena and wound up fourth and fifth with
an impressive mark of 31.60 seconds and 31.64 seconds, respectively. In the corresponding race, Caroline Ruhnau of German earned sixth place honours in a time of 31.65 seconds, while the seventh place went to Pakistan’s Lianna Swan who touched the finishing
wall and ended her swim with a time of 36.01 seconds.
The swims of all athletes in the final meet impressed spectators who were present in the arena, while the top three winners were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
The 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup is a vital series for all athletes of world swimming, as it provides them with a thrilling opportunity to prepare themselves better for their futuristic meets, which includes the 2012 Olympic Games, in London. The FINA World
