Xin Wen cripples Prarthana G. Thombare in opening round – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Chinese starlet, Xin Wen, devastated the Indian challenger, Prarthana G. Thombare, with a bagel at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Monday. She jolted down a 6-1, 6-0 victory against the Indian to secure a spot in the round of 16 at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Bangkok, Thailand.
Seeded second in this event, Wen showed brilliant skills to outclass Thombare in their first meeting. After earning the fame in around 45 minutes, the Chinese comfortably advanced into the second round at this outdoor hard court tournament.
Wen stormed into the Rama Garden Sport Complex. After Thombare held her opening serve, the Chinese unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and winded up following six games. She blocked the only breakpoint she came across and cashed all three break chances to pull out the opener with a breadstick.
Ranked 457th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wen maintained her intensity in the following set. She reeled off all six games in a row through exceptional forehands from her box of tricks. The Chinese was never challenged with any trouble and availed all three break chances to register an impressive 6-0 victory.
The 20-year-old snapped out from two match losing streak. She secured a quarter-final spot at the Tarakan ITF (lost to her qualifying compatriot Hao Chen Tang) but lost her track afterwards.
Up next for Wen is the Taiwanese qualifier, Chia Hsien Yang, who hit back at New Zealand’s Dianne Hollands to set up this meeting. Yang lifted her game in the second set and eventually sealing the deal with a 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-4 victory.
The local qualifier, Napatsakorn Sankaew, will join Wen in the proceeding round. She upset fourth seeded Deniz Khazaniuk from Israel. The Thai dumped Khazaniuk with a 6-2, 7-5 score line.
She wiped out the last four games in a row and bagged the opening set with a 6-2 win. The qualifier held her composure in the following set and smoothly slid her entire serves. She got the breakthrough in the last game and consequently clinched the set with a 7-5 score line.
The 19-year-old will face off Korea’s Ye-Ra Lee in the pre-quarters.
