Xin Wen slays Chia Hsien Yang to enter quarters – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Second seed, Xin Wen, trashed the Taiwanese qualifier, Chia Hsien Yang, with a breadstick at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Wednesday. She clobbered a 6-1, 6-4 victory against the qualifier to charge into the quarter-finals at this outdoor hard court
tournament taking place from 3rd to 9th December in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Chinese seed continued showing her impressive skills at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event and eventually sealed victory in almost one hour and 15 minutes. As a result, Wen comfortably booked a spot in the last eight.
Wen stormed into the Rama Garden Sport Complex. After Hsien Yang held her opening serve in the second game, the Chinese unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and reeled off five games in a row. She blocked the only breakpoint she came across and cashed half
of the six break chances to pull out the opener with a breadstick.
Ranked 457th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wen lost her early in the set. However, she not only recovered in the fifth game but held her composure to keep her remaining serves. The Chinese got the breakthrough in the
second last game and eventually sealed the set by winning six games to four. She dusted away two out of three breakpoints she came across and marked two out of three break opportunities to achieve her goal.
The 20-year-old is on a poor run of form. However, she managed to reach the quarter-finals at the Goyang ITF event (lost to her qualifying compatriot Hao Cheng Tang).
Next up for Wen is the fifth seed, Yafan Wang, who recorded a straight set victory against the Taiwanese challenger, Pei-Chi Lee. She needed almost an hour to formulate a 6-2, 6-2 score line.
The third seed, Nungnadda Wannasuk, also stole the limelight later that day. She triumphed over the Swedish challenger, Matilda Hamlin, in straight sets to progress. The seeded Thai lost her serve once but cashed three break chances to formulate a 6-3, 6-3
score line in almost one and a half hour.
She will next face seventh seeded Shiho Akita from Japan.
