I've followed the manual instructions for removing the xp anti virus from my computer but the desk top still remains. I have changed the image and then rebooted the computer but after a short period the desk top returns to the 'warning box' any ideas thanks.

  1. Windows XP anti-virus, eh?  i use ubuntu and vista now, but if i remember, that came pre-loaded with the computer, and microsoft is the publisher?

if so, i believe miscrosoft will be a an ***, re-installing anything that you have remove that came pre-loaded, thats how vista will work

    email me if im wrong

  2. do you mean that your desktop is still red ?? I had the same problem.

Have you tried this website http://www.lancelhoff.com/2008/02/22/how...

I was unlucky and was unable to remove it and had to reinstall windows xp. I was trying to find a crack and therefor I became infected.

I can only blame myself, because I advise all askers who want to look for craciks and regkeys never to do so. Too dangerous. I was not listening to my own advise and had to pay the price for ti.

    good luck

  3. What do you mean by "the desktop still remains?". I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're saying; Could you be a little more thorough?

(Edit) It sounds like you're talking about the active desktop error. I don't get what the anti virus has to do with it...

  4. if you mean about windows xp antivirus 2008 or 2009 this is a spyware.try this.

  5. I just had to do this the other day.

    Try this: http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover...

That, then spybot, worked for me.

Edit: This is assuming you're refering to the XP 2008 Antivirus fake antivirus program that gives the blue desktop backgroung with the warning in the center.

Edit 2: I can't remember, but I may have had to run the above program in safe mode. Try it in regular. If that doesn't work, try it in safe mode.

  6. somtimes they can only be removed in safemode[f8 as pc fires up]...
