I have a problem, my computer when it starts up won't show the desktop and when I start up it won't let me sign in unless I close down a box that says "rundll32.exe" which I believe is a virus.

The good thing is I can run all my programs and internet through task manager, I don't how to fix it - if I try to run "desktop" it freezes the computer

  1. Your best start is to read to this forum -

Which will walk you thru the tools listed -

One important thing is the fact that you should completely update the Operating System and ALL of the patches IF it lets you!  If your machine is patched for the vulnerability on the HD, then YOU cannot get infected.  It is the more proactive approach (patching your machine, keeping your software updated, using the most current firmware and drivers).  AV is ALWAYS reactive!

    Good Luck!

  2. Rundll32.exe is not a virus. It is an essential component of windows.

  3. Rundll32.exe is a windows file and possibly been corrupted by a virus. You might be able to go back to a previous setting and boot from there or copy and paste the file from a computer with the same OS to the sys32 file in your computer

use someone else computer to email than rundll32.exe and USERINIT.EXE, and email it to yourself, then download it to your corrupted computer, i fixed my aunts computer like so

  4. turn on your antivirus.... and if you don't have anitvirus like NOD32 which i recomand to you can do free online  scan by this website , and you will see if you have really virus or not .

  5. If you can still install applications then I would suggest that you find the latest Microsoft Security updates for your system.  I would also upgrade whatever your antivirus program to AVG "Free" edition.  Uninstall your old antivirus and any old spyware software.  Next you should also download Windows Defender (also Free).

I have attached the links for all these items mentions.

  6. Try going to btexpress.page.tl to get the service your computer to see what is wrong. They are great.

  7. download, install and run a free program called ccleaner. Run the cleaner and registry menus in it.

  8. you could eat it, i ate mine, it tastes good with all-purpose special sauce. my friends wont let me eat their old, virus infested ones though, but i dont see why, they said their not going to eat it. it goes good with milk, too and its a good source of iron and protein. i got a new XP though, its not virus infected.

no but seriously, you could just try to totally reboot your computer. that's a solution I've heard of.

  9. rundll32.exe is a process included with Windows (though it might also be a masquerading virus as well). Your system may be corrupt. Try reinstalling Windows (backing up essential files if possible).
