Question:

Xpedia-escrow company? Good?

I found a car online and the out-of-state seller says that the transaction will be handled by a 3rd party (xpedia-escrow). Their services sound great, just want to make sure that everything is upright and that I won't get ripped off. Anyone know anything or have experience with this company? Thanks!

  1. Never heard of them. A lot of the "escrow" companies that sellers on-line say they like are phony. I would be very cautious.

  2. I was wondering the same thing. I was looking at a car today and the seller told me the same thing. What is the name of the seller and what kind of car was it? I searched Xpedia Escrow, Inc.'s license with the California Department of Corporations and it expired in April. I also tried to contact them with phone numbers that I found around the internet and the number was disconnected. Please get back to me at sonofarita@yahoo.com. Hopefully we can get a true answer to our questions.

    Thanks,

    Jason

  3. Xpedia-Escrow.com is a fraud and an illegally copied version of our website.

I am the managing director of a website called BuyerGuardian.com. We are a legitimate escrow business located in a suburb of Denver, Colorado. Numerous individuals have copied our website without our permission and are using the fake copies of our site to convince buyers to send money to them for vehicle purchases.

THESE SITES ARE FAKE AND THERE IS NO VEHICLE FOR SALE! The photos, description and VIN were copied from a real car listing. The whole thing is a scam to lure you into sending money to this fraudulent seller. We are actively pursuing a number of these individuals and will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. DO NOT purchase or pay for a vehicle through Xpedia-Escrow.com.

To further confuse the issue, there is a legitimate escrow company in California called Xpedia Escrow (949-305-1813.) They have nothing to do with these fraudulent car listings. The fraudulent seller just copied their name and is using their Better Business Bureau membership page to give the appearance of a legitimate business to the fake website. Please contact me directly if you would like additional information. You can find our phone number on our website at www.buyerguardian.com.

  4. I was looking for a car on Autotrader.com and I found this 2007 Mini Cooper with a really low amount of miles on it and in good condition, but the VIN # wasn't on the ad. So I e-mailed the guy and told him I might be interested in buying, and asked him what the VIN was.  He responded back saying that he was looking for a serious buyer and that he bought the car for his son, but his son died from cancer 2 months ago?? He gave me the VIN #, so I checked it out and the history report was fine, althought it said the last place it ended up was in PA, but he was selling it out of Kalamazoo, MI.  So naturally I started creeping looking for some sort of evidence that this guy was legit.  So I started with his phone number on the Autotrader ad (which by the way was taken off Autotrader the day after I e-mailed him) and did a reverse 411 on the number, to find out that the house was in Kalamazoo, but it was titled to R Lannen, but the guy's name is Brian Garcia.  I was like ok well thats weird, but I kept checking things.  So I looked in obituaries in Kalamazoo and searched things like "Brian Garcia's son dies from cancer", "Lannen dies from cancer", and then I searched Brian Garcia in the white pages, and found a the only listing to Brian Garcia in Kalamazoo, and it was not the same address or phone number as what was in the autotrader.com ad.  So then after I told him that report was ok and I was ready to go on with the purchase, he sent me another e-mail explaining to me that it would done through xpedia-escrow.com and that the car was actually all the way in CA and had to be shipped.  He said that I would wire the money to a safe deposit account that only I could approve to be wired to his account and that I would recieve the car at my house beforehand for a 5 day inspection period.  He gave me the website and link to the company.  So I looked at it and the website looked kind of fishy to me, so I looked at the contact information on the website and searched the company name on google.  I found a company by the exact same name with the same address as on the website, with the same liscence #, but the strange thing was that on other websites that have company profiles so that users can check reliability of companies and etc.  I got the profile from BBB online.  It said that the owner of the company was Gail Sedey and that the compay specialized in Escrow services, but online it said the Xpedia Escrow Inc. company was a Real Estate Broker and Manager, not anything related to cars.  This guy wants me to give him my name, shipping address, and phone number.  Sounds like were having the same issue. The car is legit and in good shape, but where is it and what is this company....

  5. I also found a 06 range rover sport that I was interested in, listed by a Brian Garcia. I got the same son died of cancer story and that the car was intended to be a present for the boy. He mentioned the same xpedia-escrow but I haven't looked too deeply into them, something's just not right.  The car is in a warehouse in CA and will be shipped to me for a 5 day trial period. All in all my instincts are telling to be careful.
