Do you think my xr100 is nice enough for a motocross track or should I get new plastics for it?

  1. XR is not suitable for motocross, the CRF is. Because of the engine layout, the CRF offers explosive (2 stroke like) power. The XR is made for offroad and to have a flat torque curve.

  2. The first guys are right about there being better bikes out there for motocross but if you already have the xr give it a try and have fun.  The bike can handle dumps without falling apart.  My first "dirtbikes" were enduros from the 70s and they never just fell apart, the xr is far better than they were.  Just don't go trying to jump the thing 40 yards right off the bat.  Go out there and have fun.  If you really like motocross get a new bike in a year, the xr will be fine to learn the ropes on, they are nearly bulletproof bikes and have been for many, many years.  About the plastics, why get new ones at this time, chances are you will be breaking the tail within the first few rides anyways, these things happen when you are first learning.  I would spend more time worrying about riding gear and maybe sprockets.  When you first go to the track watch a few of the better riders, something tells me the plastics on their bikes will not be in the best of shape.

  3. xr's are more of a trail bike. your better off with a 80 or 100 two stroke for the tracks.

  4. Plastics have nothing to do with it, who cares about the plastic. The XR 100 is not a MX Bike, but if you are just going out to practise and get in some laps go as you are, If its a well known track they will have a mini practise, 65 85 XR100 no problem. If your ready to move up to a new bike it all depends on you age size and ability most likely the CRF150R.
