Mixed Doubles experts Xu Chen and Ma Jin remained invincible in the final round of Li Ning China Open and raised the trophy by beating Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying on Sunday, November 18, 2012.
This title match was played at local badminton arena of Shanghai and it prolonged to 45 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-15 and 21-17.
Though, World Number one Chinese duo wrapped this showdown in just two games but still they had to put extra effort to seal this straight-set victory.
On the other hand, the Malaysian team displayed a commendable fighting spirit but luck was not on their side.
Xu Chen and Ma Jin, who were top seeded players of this Super Series tournament, played cautiously in the beginning of first set and allowed the opposing shuttlers to enjoy a decent lead until 4-1 total.
However, they geared up themselves and levelled the score with 6-6. They did not drop their pace and got into commanding position with an indomitable margin of 11-6.
Later part of the game was full of drama as the twosome of Peng Soon-Liu Ying showed some spark and narrowed the gap.
Both partners showed superb coordination and bagged some valuable points in a row. They carried that rhythm in third quarter of the set but then couple of mistakes put their expedition to halt.
Xu Chen and Ma Jin relished full benefits of their rivals’ blunders and swept the table with a staggering knock of 21-15.
The Chinese campaigners did not disappoint the local crowd in following game as they displayed unbeatable craft on court and locked the honour with distinction.
In first half of the set, both teams put all in their possession to gain an early advantage but neither of them could hit the mark.
Peng Soon and Liu Ying managed to place a respectable total of 11 before the interval but they could not maintain that momentum in the final stage.
Meanwhile, Xu Chen and Ma Jin picked some pace and cruised to victory with a significant margin of 21-17.
This was a wrap and the Chinese players claimed the Mixed Doubles crown of this Super Series event.
