Xu Chen, Ma Jin tread into Mixed Doubles semi-finals of Indonesia Open – Badminton news
Mixed Doubles experts Xu Chen and Ma Jin of China stretched their winning streak in quarter-final round of Djarum Indonesia Open and marched into the semi-finals on Friday, June 14, 2013.
They cast out the Polish team Robert Mateusiak-Nadiezda Zieba in a 49-minute tussle which was staged at the local badminton complex of Jakarta. Though, the Chinese duo remained invincible but it was not an easy run to victory for them. They had to sweat
hard to read a favourable result of 21-11, 16-21 and 21-18.
The twosome of Xu Chen and Ma Jin prevailed in the opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas the losing team could rise only in the middle of battle.
The top seeded team launched an intensive attack immediately in the beginning of first set and gained n early advantage. Both Chinese shuttlers showed great chemistry in the establishing rallies and left their challengers far behind on the points table.
They kept on adding valuable points in their total and finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11. This convincing margin boosted their confidence and they kept their competitors at lower end in latter part of the game.
Xu Chen and Ma Jin widened the gap on points table by claiming few consecutive points in third quarter of the set and then swept the table with an overwhelming figure of 21-11.
However, things became difficult for them in the very next game as the Polish campaigners geared up themselves and caught their rivals in match score position. This time the partnership of Robert and Nadiezda looked at its best. Both shuttlers maintained
a significant lead till the final moments and won this crucial set with a respectable margin of 21-16.
With this development, both teams were feeling the heat equally as they needed the final match point badly. They pushed each other in all areas of the court and their honest effort earned great respect for them.
Both pairs kept on chasing each other all the way to game point situation and this race ended when Xu Chen and Ma Jin registered a winning figure of 21-18.
Now they will lock horns with a compatriot duo Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei in the semi-finals of Indonesia Open.
